On July 4, 2025, Elon Musk announced that xAI’s chatbot Grok had been updated. It wasn’t long after Independence Day when users started noticing that Grok had become incendiary and referring to itself as “MechaHitler.” Grok insulted the entire population of Turkey, leading legal action from the nation as well as a ban, and Musk passed its extremist, hateful rhetoric as being “too eager to please and be manipulated, essentially.”
It has been well documented that AI contains many biases, mostly programed by humans, and yet it has become absolutely ubiquitous. Even artists are using it. But where is it heading? And is it inherently evil? In this collection of pieces from the 032c backlog, we look at the history of AI, its limitations, and how it can be used for self-discovery and expression.
