STÜSSY x 032c PANTHER LONGSLEEVE Worldwide Release

On the occasion of today’s July 14th release of the Stüssy x 032c Panther Longsleeve, photographer and director Jonas Lindstroem and 032c’s fashion editor Marc Goehring paid a visit to Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s panther statue in front of the Schauspielhaus in Berlin. When we began collaborating with Stüssy on the shirt, we wondered what Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem “The Panther” would look like in the brand’s beachy 80s font. Pairing the pioneer of California streetwear with the OG of Austro-Hungarian Modernism was simply irresistible. Written in Stüssy’s classic hand-style on the back of the Panther Longsleeve, Rilke’s 1902 poem about images, bodies, and captivity appears like a message-in-a-bottle to the digital age. The Panther
In Jardin des Plantes, Paris

His vision, from the constantly passing bars,
has grown so weary that it cannot hold
anything else. It seems to him there are
a thousand bars; and behind the bars, no world.

As he paces in cramped circles, over and over,
the movement of his powerful soft strides
is like a ritual dance around a center
in which a mighty will stands paralyzed.

Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly … An image enters in,
rushes down through the tensed, arrested muscles,
plunges into the heart and is gone.

– Rainer Maria Rilke
