A Rose By Any Other Name: MATTHEW WILLIAMS and ALYX Go Medieval in Ferrara

“A foundation built on the undercurrent.” — This is how Matthew Williams describes his womenswear label ALYX. After establishing himself as a photographer and creative director, the New York-based Williams has devoted himself to ready-to-wear and accessories inspired by a melange of global subcultures. ALYX is luxury subverted, dissolved, and reconstituted into a shadow of itself. Filled with unexpected garment constructions as well as an alluring interplay of shiny and matte finishes, the label’s second collection spins the textures of streetwear and nightlife into something edified yet unfamiliar.

Photographed by Williams himself and styled by 032c’s Marc Goehring, this editorial takes the medieval city of Ferrara as its backdrop, a place filled with blooming flowers and long, De-Chirico-esque shadows.
