JUERGEN TELLER Is the Ultimate Bon Vivant!

Two years into his sixth decade, Juergen Teller is slipping into grand-masterhood (dis)gracefully. He is the ultimate oft-imitated, never-bettered fashion photographer of our time.

And if we know it, Juergen most certainly does too, on the basis of the new show, largely of his recent works, at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn. He’s riding a donkey. He’s partying under a discoball during his time at a rehabilitation clinic (a gift to himself for his 50th birthday). He’s taking his trousers off to go hiking with Kim Kardashian.

The complexity of his composition, his images’ strange serenity, the play between gut-punch immediacy and total mystery are brought into sharp relief here, in an exhibition that shows one of the classic photographers of any age and any genre going into full-on “L-I-V-I-N'” dad mode. “I just want to wade through rivers, climb mountains,” he said after his time in the French countryside with Kardashian and Kanye West. “And I prevail.”
