BOTTEGA Residency Week Two: TYRONE LEBON

Last week, BOTTEGA VENETA launched a new residency program, providing cultural content from leading and emerging fashion industry talent for those who, like most of us, are spending a lot of time at home. DANIEL LEE, the Italian fashion house’s creative director, kicked off the multi-platform project as the first resident, curating a selection of his own creative inspirations and influences – including artist David Hockney, director Steven Spielberg, and choreographer Maurice Bejart – and, later in the week, hosting live performances, a cooking tutorial, and a movie night.
This week, the label passes the baton to photographer, filmmaker, and Bottega collaborator TYRONE LEBON, who will present his favorite writer today, following up on Tuesday with his favorite artist and Wednesday with his favorite director. The ongoing initiative seeks to provide a “theatre of joyous distraction” in a time of distress, and to engage creatives at a moment where inspiration can be hard to come by. It’s not Lee’s first venture into virtual environments: taking place in Milan just before the city shut down due to Covid-19, the Bottega Veneta fall 2020 fashion show transported the audience to a Mediterranean villa, a setting conveyed through projections onto white screens. The screens on which this project is unfolding are your own smart phones and laptops, via the Bottega Instagram and a specially created microsite.
