10 Questions for Jazzelle Zanaughtti, AKA @uglyworldwide

032c
Detroit-born Jazzelle Zanaughtti likes to doodle. A few years back, she drew a woman from another dimension – a silhouette onto which she scrawled fantasy hair and make-up – and named her Ugly World Wide, a vision of beauty those around her did not recognize. After a move to Chicago and a transformative and resume-fueling shoot with Nick Knight, the line between Zanaughtti and the woman she fever-dreamed up on paper began to dissolve.

Already this year she has appeared on covers by i-D and British Vogue, and on runways for Opening Ceremony and Rhianna’s edenic Savage x Fenty presentation, which closed 2018 New York Fashion Week.
Zanaughtti is based in New York now, but we hung out with her this summer in Berlin, where photographer Jordan Hemingway shot her in pieces from the 032c What We Believe collection, accessorized with our latest release: 032c Classics Underwear. Get to know our newest heroine.

What is the most surprising, positive thing about the fashion industry?

That people get paid so much money just to play dress up for a day. No complaints here! Also how genuinely fun going to work can be.

And what’s the most surprising, negative thing about it?

That so many people still act “too cool” . . . like, chill! You ain’t all that! And even if you are, you ain’t gotta be a bitch about it. Too many big-ass egos, lol.

Do you fuck with astrology? What’s your sign?

Sagittarius. I’m not super into astrology, but when I’ve gotten my horoscope read to me, it has been pretty spot on.

What are you most proud of?

Myself.

What are you least proud of?

The bitches who doubted me.

What are you most concerned about on a personal level?

What I’m going to eat for dinner tonight.

What are you optimistic about?

The wide wide world that is Uber Eats.

And beyond dinner?

The youth stepping up to the plate to make sure Donald Trump doesn’t have a second term.

What’s the last dream you remember?

I dreamed recently that I was growing little metal scales, and over time when I’d pick one off, three would take its place.

What do you dream of for the future?

Whatever happens, happens tbh – but I’d really love to climb (or even attempt to climb) Mt. Everest one day.
