Pleated Pants & Sequenced Environments: A Meditation on Corporate Aesthetics

Following last month’s survey into the world of homecare aesthetics, artist Reese Riley of Archival Aesthetics: Environment and Object returns with another special commission of collages exploring corporate imagery. Along with artists Pussykrew, Gergő Kovács, and YNTBP, this month Riley scours image search for visions of cubicles and ergonomic workstations, accompanied by an exclusive mix by Vision Music.

Riley explains:

“Vectors of revolving doors whirl around crowds of pleated pants in Corporate Aesthetics: Environment and Object. Cool marble lobbies melt up grinding elevator shafts into pale, carpeted cubicles. From here is seen not even shops, but districts, whole cities unravel beneath this superficial gaze. To be “corporate” is to be a part of a mass communication, a branded structuralism, the generalizing glance from the top floor of a skyscraper will always be a de-humanizing beam. This beam is no different than a glow of excel spreadsheets projecting a grid across tremulous, sweaty foreheads that crunch data.”
