GROSSE FREIHEIT: 032c Readytowear Spring/Summer 2023 Lookbook
The 032c Readytowear Spring/Summer 2023 collection is called Große Freiheit (“Big Freedom”).
Große Freiheit a method and mindset for creative production. It is a means of allowing – a system based on desire, not control; on reception, not rejection. Große Freiheit accepts the conditions as a means to change them.
Große Freiheit is driven by experience. It is the pleasure of the pursuit of associative satisfaction – a preference for means over ends, process over perfectionism. Große Freiheit steers clear of straight lines, thus the curvature of its silhouettes, the bowed arms of its women's blousons and men's gowns, of its dress shirts and outerwear designed to both take up and create space.
Divergent stitches in knits make for featherweight sweater sets that are alternately opaque and transparent, organically revealing and concealing at just the right moments. Embroidered webbing meanders across delicate mesh, forming rhizomes of coverage in second-skin sheer jumpsuits, tops, knee-highs, opera gloves. This is how Große Freiheit works: sometimes the path is only partially clear. Große Freiheit meets risk with total trust.
Große Freiheit is a faux naïf and a flirt. In twilight hues of purple and terracotta it talks to strangers on the street – because that’s how you get to know yourself. It is turned on by the light found in friction, because friction is fire. Its pre-destroyed and patchwork denim skirts and workwear reveal the past lives of materials, cataloguing adventures like notches on double-strapped leather belts. Jeans splashed with paint, cut-off graphics, and daringly low cuts in bikinis and bralettes find freedom in detachment.
Unease is a muse (and amusing) to Große Freiheit. The collection’s boldly oversized suiting is never too big nor too much; its body-hugging blazer sets aren’t ever quite too tight. Große Freiheit is comfort at the edge. Yet protective harness and safety motifs in flight jackets and parachute trousers take the edge off. Boning details on tailored suiting, tops, and swimwear scaffold all the sovereignty.
Große Freiheit does what Große Freiheit wants. It is a puffer jacket in the summertime, a vision of the future printed on old cotton, yesterday’s uniform worn tomorrow (and vice versa). Große Freiheit doesn’t want to know what day it is, and it doesn’t respond to “what’s the occasion?” Große Freiheit is for all occasions, and it needs none.
