CYPRIEN GAILLARD, The Berlin Archive 2009–10

032c workshop / Joerg Koch is pleased to present CYPRIEN GAILLARD’s “Berlin Archive 2009–10.” A compilation of original works, source material, and ephemera from Gaillard’s past exhibitions, “Berlin Archive 2009–10” presents a library of images, texts, and artifacts that have affected and figured in Gaillard’s work during his current Berlin residency.

Gaillard (*1980) exacerbates our understanding and experience of modernism and its architecture through the breaking point where loss becomes potential, and vice versa. With a particular fascination with failed utopias, demolition, ruins, the clash between culture and nature, and the creative forces that emerge therein, Gaillard’s multi-media work provokes the present by confronting the past.

Included in the vitrine are rare architecture and land-art books, Gaillard’s own documentation of urban demolition and others’ land-art, as well as artifacts from sites such as Angkor, Cambodia and the deserted Iraqui Embassy in Berlin. Gaillard was first featured in 032c magazine in issue 13, and previously exhibited in 032c workshop’s group show, “Industrial Light Magic,” in New York, November 2009.
