CHRISTOPHE CHEMIN – “keep your daisies for the cold days”

032c Workshop / Joerg Koch are pleased to present “keep your daisies for the cold days,” an installation by CHRISTOPHE CHEMIN.

The works on view are derived from Chemin’s recent collaboration with PRADA for the label’s Autumn-Winter 2016/17 collections. In original drawings and collages commissioned by the label, the French artist questions our linear understanding of history, refusing to play into a dichotomy of what is considered “old” and what is “contemporary.”

“An assemblage of histories requires much more thought than plainly striving for newness,” says Chemin. He lets historic figures of great importance—Freud, Jeanne d’Arc, Che Guevara, Nina Simone, to name a few—wrestle in a free-for-all in one of his drawings, a couple embraces in the consciously kitsch “Impossible True Love,” but transferred onto shirts, dresses, and skirts, his figurative works resurface in degrees of abstraction.
