Auf Wiedersehen, Vertical Video

Horizon-app

The habit of recording video with an upright mobile phone—in portrait mode—has become an affliction. Cinema has always been produced horizontally. TVs and computer screens have horizontal ratios. Our eyes are oriented horizontally. Watching tall, skinny videos with side black bars is like going into the most boring k-hole imaginable. Neither our media nor our anatomy is built to enjoy it. But a new app by Greek iOS development studio Evil Window Dog has created a solution to what’s now known as Vertical Video Syndrome. It’s called Horizon, and it allows you to record horizontal video no matter how you hold your device—upright, sideways, or even while rotating. Ratios include square 1:1, wide 16:9, and standard 4:3.
