We pay homage to 032c hero HELMUT LANG – and announce our 64-page dossier on his legacy, to be released in 032c's Winter 2016/17 Issue – with this T-shirt.
After turning Austrian zen into the face of New York chic, Lang quit fashion in 2005. Yet his legacy remains so large that is it almost impossible to see. Lang brought bomber jackets to the runway, perfected the artist collaboration with advertisements with Louise Bourgeois and stores with Jenny Holzer, and turned bandages and bondage into high fashion. This was commerce as its own culture, the most successful arrival of modernism into pop.
This shirt features Lang’s Autumn-Winter 2001/02 collection advertising, with a feathered bondage collar shot by Anthony Ward. It’s the textile trailer for our next issue. Stay tuned.
